Anti-Oxidants and Stress

Posted by joe 25 Jun, 2010

An interesting site is offering a new approach to stress and its effects on the human body.

When it comes to age, we all want to look younger, live longer, and enjoy life to the fullest. Problem is that life has a way of throwing stuff at us to make us look older and live a lot less than we could.

How do you resolve this?

Anti aging is the buzz for many today. Stress tends to push us to age a lot faster than we need but a company has come up with a defense against this specific problem. Advancing Oxidative Stress Technology Oxis International, Inc. (OTCBB: OXIS) is the premiere provider for the potent antioxidant, Ergothioneine and through their patented synthetic manufacturing process remains the only significant commercial source of pure l-ergothioneine worldwide.

Why would this be important to know?

Well, because of the way we go through life, we end up due to a variety of factors, such as pollutants, certain drugs, and ultra-violet exposure (sun rays) with an imbalanced and unstable body system that is incapable of fighting off those radicals. That’s why anti-oxidants are so much in the news today. Oxis, the company behind the l-ergothioneine is pushing to create a way or means to reduce the imbalance in the body molecules and hopefully bring relief for other medical problems at the same time.

If you are concerned with the effect of pollutants on your body and your lack of ability to fight these off, you owe it to yourself to check this product and company http://www.oxis.com out.
Check them out for additional information on consumer products geared to address very important health concerns including aging and age-related disorders that are increasing with trends in US demographics. These concerns include:

* Brain health
* Immunity against diseases
* Anti-aging/skin health
* Inflammation
* Detoxification
* Blood sugar regulation
You will be glad you did.

Metabolism: What the heck is it?

Posted by joe 13 Apr, 2010

Can you buy a can of metabolism at the store?

A pair of In-N-Out cheeseburgers.
Image via Wikipedia

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could stop at the nearest grocery store, buy a can of metabolism and then stop at the nearest fast food store for the quick fix. I would just love it.

And, while I’m at it, let’s add a can of energy as well. Could you have someone take it to the car for me, I just don’t feel up to taking it out myself!

Metabolism according to wikipedia is the chemical reactions needed to maintain life or something like that. Which means that no one is real certain what the heck it is.

A number of books have been written about this and one that I think has a good approach is Metabolize: The Personalized Program for Weight Loss and there is a reason why it should be.

This book is much more than a diet book. It teaches you how to eat, think, move, breath and supplement for healthy, permanent weight loss.

The book is very easy to read and the one thing that somehow strikes me is that it teaches that everyone has a different metabolism so a diet that works for one person may not necessarily work for someone else, no matter how good the diet is.

The book is available at Amazon so it should be real easy for you to safely check it out.

My experience is also different than that of others, as I have found that a sensible diet followed by a good aerobic exercise will help my metabolism become more active. The problem is that there is so much that I need to be doing and exercise and a decent diet aren’t priorities. Unfortunately.

For now, one of the ways that I try to resolve this issue is to use supplements. Still testing them though.

I will have more on this on a later blog.

What do you think? Did your diet hit a wall? Do you struggle with your metabolism?

To your success

Weightloss Resources and Advanced Weightloss Formulas Abound – Where do You Start?

this lens's photo

The statistics on weight-loss are phenomenal.

  • 64% of Americans are overweight
  • 325 thousand people die from obesity and obesity related issues
  • The weight loss market is expected to sell more than 61 billion dollars worth of diet related products.
  • Individuals will spend in excess of 750 million dollars on over-the-counter supplements.
  • Here are some of the obesity health related issues:

  • Thyroid problems
  • Diabetes
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • High Blood Pressure or Hypertension
  • Coronary Heart Disease
  • Various forms of cancer
  • Interestingly, and you probably could give your own first hand story, obesity affects relationships:

  • Starting or ending a relationship (preparing to find a life partner, or ending a marriage).
  • Low self-esteem resulting in bad relationships
  • Loneliness
  • Take My Advice, I ain’t using it!

so much advice so little time!

When it comes to diets and weight loss programs, most individuals working to lose weight have tried them one time or another, or have thought about trying them one time or another.

What is scary is that this is not supposed to be a roller-coaster, or a stroll-in-the-park-at-sunset. It is a real struggle and for many a difficult process.

    Big Business!
It’s a big deal no matter what!

  • Did you know that 64% of the people in the United States are considered overweight?
  • Did you know that some 325,000 people die from overweight or obesity?
  • Did you know that the life expectancy in the US is close to 75 years but an overweight person can expect to have a difficult time during the last eight years of his/her life
  • Did you know that we spend over 60 billion dollars trying to figure out a way to lose weight?
  • Given all these statistics, it is no wonder that we try to find advice anywhere and everywhere and are willing to pay quite well to get it.

Unfortunately, these are just generic programs and will work for one set of individuals but may not work for another. You will need to try a few programs until you find one that works for you. We are unique, and thank God for that, so our bodies will respond to food in different ways.

Here’s something that has just recently been uncovered, your fat cells don’t disappear when you lose weight, they just shrink. Once you start binging you will fill up the cells and increase your weight. This is a very important characteristic for you to keep in mind when you decide on what program you want to work with to help you lose weight.

Gaining Weight! It’s a weighty subject!

    I’m this way by accident!

Someone said that food doesn’t find itself in our mouths by accident! This is a well-planned process!

The Tragedy of being Over Weight!

Gaining weight is more of an issue for women than it is for men. So, learn to live with it!

And, from the guy’s perspective, don’t ask a guy to be honest and then ask him to comment on your shape!
If you have a great shape, you will get comments. Enough said.

Here’s something else that is somewhat unfair. Older women, anywhere from the age of 40 on, tend to gain more weight than both younger women and men, typically. This is mainly due to two causes, drop in metabolism and drop in activity. As we age, irrespective of sex, individuals will notice that their metabolism will slow down and what used to take no time at all to get turned into energy now takes a lot longer and first turns into fat more often than not. And, it may never turn into energy, hence the weight gain.

The other whammy is that we tend to slow our activity down considerably as we age. That reduces the ability for the metabolism to work it’s magic even more.

Given those two barriers, the effort for women to get back in shape is a lot greater than it is for men. Although, it is still an effort for either sex.

What can you do to help counter these two barriers?

First, a little exercise goes a long way to help get your metabolism re-started.

Exercise doesn’t have to be out of your comfort zone to be effective. Any activity from walking to running at a 8 mph pace will change your metabolism considerably and almost immediately. Here’s the problem though, if you are way overweight, you will not see these changes as quickly as someone who only needs to lose 20 or 30 pounds. Your activity will also be a lot lighter than theirs. So, be patient with yourself.

Supplements are another way to jump start the process. However, for these you would probably need to consult an authority or do some independent research as there are different ways supplements interact with the metabolism and what may work for an individual may not for another.

Finally, changing your eating habits or at least, being more aware of what you eat or drink, may go a long way to help you with your weight loss goal. Drinking too many sugar-filled sodas a day will increase your weight gain and exchanging those for plan water with a fruit flavor so it becomes more palatable. Eliminate one or two fattening items from your diet at a time so that your system doesn’t rebel so much.

Watch what you eat or drink!
We live in an instant society and demand instant foods as well. However, our system isn’t used to that, at least not yet.

When you stop at a fast food place and order a gourmet burger and then add it as a super-sized combo, and proceed to devour it as quickly as you can while either driving back to work, or sitting at your desk at work, the end result is that you end up eating anywhere from 800 to 1600 calories of fatty food that will take a long time to digest and will definitely increase your fat reserves.

    Are there alternatives?
    There are alternatives.

On the cheap side, your best bet is to take a sack lunch to work or go to a grocery store and buy foods to use for lunches such as salads, either ready-made or that you can mix and match with other stuff. Use healthy salad dressings such as low-fat vinaigrette and olive oil. And, go for a brisk walk instead of sitting down all through your lunch break or for that matter other breaks.

    We are not ALONE!

    Support!

We are in this together, until we are chased by a bear! Then, it’s every man to himself! And may the fastest man win!

Seriously, obesity isn’t as drastic and dramatic as it once was!

The younger, hot generation of the sixties is now the aging boomers of today! And, there are lots of us out there, all looking somewhat out of shape and not-so-hot.

The tight, sexy abs, and thighs of yesterday are now just older, flabbier, and aged. It takes a lot longer to get that hot look that many admired and did what they could to get. Today, we are mostly grateful that we are alive, and in somewhat good health, barring some dumb diseases here and there.

The problem is that there is another younger generation right behind this showing healthy, sexy, incredibly tight bodies, and the competition for attention is greater.

    Specially for the boomers!

We are now being ignored as the younger vixens and turks hold the spot-lite.

    But that’s ok.

What we need to realize is that we are unique and our contributions don’t have to be about our bodies any longer. Let someone else bring that out. We can contribute in the maturity of our presence and looks and that is what we should really work towards.

The reality though is that we look at our bodies and resent ourselves. We blame our choices and whatever else we can think of and the result is that we end up being even more stressed out and end up eating and splurging some more and that becomes a vicious circle that’s hard to break.

Here are some final thoughts – for now:

  • Be gentle with yourself!
  • Be aware of your eating habits!
  • Be responsible for your own life!
  • Expect to have down days!
  • Start a diary!
  • Join a weight loss group!
  • Consult a skinny doctor!

Fitness News From around the Globe!

Posted by joe 20 Feb, 2010

What interests you the most when you think aerobic fitness?

This time, my thoughts turned to the world of fitness news from around the globe.

What is going on in the fitness arena, specially as you backdrop it against the Winter Olympics that were underway in Vancouver, Canada. As far as I’m concerned these were one of the most blah, boring, uninteresting Olympics ever. I think that the main reason for this is what is going on globally, the economy, the falling buying ability – money doesn’t go as far as it used to – and just a sense that things are dismal. So, this is a way to combat that down-feeling. Enjoy!

Beware of Sports Injuries: Step off the treadmill as you read this.

We’ll start with an interesting blog on sports injuries. Now, keep in mind that most people who have exercised regularly aren’t usually prone to the types of situations that are listed in the article, just the newbies. This is an exaggeration but still interesting reading ‘Gym-goers trip, flip and fall in pursuit of fitness’. Keep in mind, as you read this, that most gyms will not let you on a machine until you have been through a quick rundown with a fitness coach or gym employee.

    Fitness Tips for Long Life

Of all the fitness tips I got, I think this is the most appealing. This one is still pending review but I think that any guy out there looking for a reason to increase his life span should “seriously” check this out.  This blog stats that you can “prolong your life for another 5 years by staring at big books for 10 minutes a day”. I’m all for it :)

New Year Goals: I shall not use the escalator!

This is one of the easiest forms of exercise: using the stairs. It’s overrated though. For most of us, it’s much more convenient to use the escalator. After all, why go to all that effort to get fit? If you agree, then you will enjoy this escalator view :)

More interesting news and comments later.

    Just the Basics!

Is it time to go back to basics?

When it comes to exercising and aerobics, the hardest thing to do is to get started.

    You Already Know It ALL!

There is enough information out there (the truth is out there, ala x-files) :) that you really don’t need one more someone telling you what to do but … the reality of it is that getting fit, whether you are jogging, walking, or arobicizing, the fact of the matter is that until you actually start doing it, you are just wishing.

What does it take to get started?

    Image via Wikipedia

I think! That could be the problem! Any time you think you will end up changing your mind! Just do! As the saying goes! So, the next time you are debating whether or not to get started exercising, just do it.

And now you don’t have any excuses, just read the article below and you you will understand what I mean. Have fun!

And, I’m off to exercise myself :)

    Have a great Today!
